Physical Theatre, Technique. Paris 2012

Technique is the most disciplined part of our class that requires precision of movement, intense concentration and strength.  It focuses intensively on our physical instrument through a variety of forms: degrees of tension, speeds, emotional extensions, dynamic qualities, and alignments.  We also explore contrasts in our movement creating surprise, change, isolation, fixed point, close-up actions, posited movement, stillness, qualities and colors of movement.

Technique has the power to transform the performer’s ability to move on stage, to make the actions cleaner, eliminating arbitrary or extraneous movement. Creatively, technique gives us a new kind of language to draw on for specialized movement effects and at the same time inspires students toward physical invention and experimentation.  These are skills that students often adapt to become their own unique personal trademark or signature movement style.
